About The Position

Requirements

  • Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
  • BLS certification required.
  • High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience: Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate; OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
  • Experience with orthopedics

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care by collecting and sharing pertinent information with the provider and receiving and acting on directives from the provider.
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for visit with the provider, including rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
  • Maintains exam room standards, including restocking at the end of each clinic day and cleaning rooms and tables as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day.
  • Monitors biohazard and sharps containers and replaces them as needed.
  • Assists the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA).
  • Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
  • Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verifies any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirms the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), and notes imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
  • Scans clinical documents into EMR.
  • Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Acts as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
  • Creates and promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliant environment.
  • Maintains clean workspace.
