About The Position

Soma Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and bilingual (English/Spanish) Medical Assistant to join our team in Lake Worth. This role is crucial for providing excellent patient care and supporting our clinical staff. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for preparing patients for examinations, accurately recording vital signs, assisting with procedures, administering medications, performing CLIA-waived tests, collecting laboratory specimens, and providing patient education in both English and Spanish. Additionally, the role involves maintaining a safe and clean environment, managing medical instruments, stocking exam rooms, and ensuring accurate documentation in the EMR system. The Medical Assistant will also handle administrative tasks such as completing referrals and prior authorizations, providing bilingual interpretation, and delivering exceptional customer service. Ensuring compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulations, maintaining patient confidentiality, and participating in quality improvement initiatives are also key aspects of this position. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to patient-centered care, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination by obtaining and documenting medical history and reason for visit in the EMR system.
  • Accurately measure and record vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Assist providers and clinical staff with examinations and procedures to support efficient patient care.
  • Administer medications and injections as ordered by the provider in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform CLIA-waived testing following regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Collect laboratory specimens and complete all required documentation accurately.
  • Provide patient education, including support for preventive care, family planning, and treatment instructions, in both English and Spanish.
  • Follow Universal Precautions and infection control guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure exam rooms are fully stocked, organized, and prepared for patient care.
  • Enter and maintain accurate patient data, physician orders, and clinical documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Document procedures, injections, allergy testing, and specimen collection details in compliance with Soma Medical Center policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate patient medication records.
  • Complete required forms, including referrals, prior authorizations, and vaccine logs.
  • Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) interpretation to facilitate clear communication between providers and patients.
  • Deliver exceptional, compassionate customer service to all patients and visitors.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and culturally sensitive demeanor at all times.
  • Address patient concerns promptly and effectively; escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Support efficient clinic workflow and patient flow in collaboration with the care team.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Handle all specimens and clinical materials in accordance with safety and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Submit quality assurance and required reports in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to Soma Medical Center policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Perform assigned clinical and administrative duties with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Maintain organization and meet deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Support overall clinic operations and assist with additional duties as needed.
