Prepare patients prior to physician examinations and assist in exams and procedures. This role involves greeting patients, taking vital signs, documenting medical history, preparing patients for exams and procedures, and ensuring all necessary pre-clinic data is available. The Medical Assistant will also be responsible for performing phlebotomy, in-office laboratory tests, and diagnostic testing such as EKG. They will administer injections, manage medical supplies, maintain a clean and stocked environment, and assist with phone triage and appointment scheduling. The position requires knowledge of vaccines, injectable medications, and proper administration techniques. Additionally, the role involves assisting with minor surgeries, suturing, casting, and various types of patient exams. The Medical Assistant will also be involved in closing office procedures, managing inventory, and ensuring current licensure and certification. Clerical duties such as filing and telephone operations may be required during staff absences. Obtaining patient insurance pre-authorization for medications, referrals, and procedures is also a key responsibility. The role emphasizes a team-based approach to patient care, requiring excellent communication and coordination with clinical and non-clinical staff, as well as external organizations. Care coordination, population management, and effective communication with vulnerable patient populations are essential. Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and practice performance reviews is expected.
