About The Position

Spectrum Healthcare Resources, in partnership with Kako'o, is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant for a full-time opportunity at the Fairfax Ambulatory Care Center in Fairfax, Virginia. This role supports active military personnel, veterans, and their dependents in an outpatient environment with updated facilities. The position emphasizes work-life balance with a 36-hour work week, including bi-weekly Saturday shifts. There are no on-call duties or Federal Holidays. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Training course or an associate's degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited college.
  • Documented experience in the medical field and in work acting in such capacity.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated records.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical assistant services in support of patient care and treatment.
  • Ensures all treatment requested by the provider has been scheduled/ordered.
  • Greets all visitors and determines the nature of the visit.
  • Checks patient’s medical records and places them in the appropriate location.
  • Ensures the third-party collection form is current.
  • Ensures all supporting documents in medical records are properly identified.
  • Screens walk-in patients for eligibility for treatment.
  • Makes medical identification cards and completes third-party insurance information and advance directives paperwork, if necessary.
  • Answers telephone promptly, obtains identifying information, and determines the urgency of the call.
  • Refers callers to the appropriate staff member and takes messages as appropriate.
  • Applies clinic guidelines concerning the release of patient information.
  • Transfers misdirected calls to the appropriate number.
  • Attempts to resolve complaints of an administrative nature and refers other complaints to the appropriate authority.
  • Provides requested information and assistance to patients whenever possible; refers patients to other appropriate sources for information if necessary.
  • Maintains and stocks forms and inventory needed at the front desk.
  • Performs various other clerical tasks to assist clinical staff members, including obtaining pathology reports, x-rays, or other results from specialty areas.
  • Responsible for tracking of some reports, including logging the return of pathology reports in a computerized database.
  • As required, types routine correspondence, medical statements, and memorandums as directed by clinical staff.
