About The Position

Anne Arundel Dermatology is hiring a Medical Assistant to support outpatient dermatology clinics in Wilmington, Clinton, Whiteville, Shallotte, and Burgaw, North Carolina. The role assists physicians and other providers with patient care, procedure preparation, and clinic supplies, supporting general, surgical, and Mohs dermatology. The Medical Assistant Floater travels among these locations to support providers and clinic needs.

The schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The organization describes itself as a dermatology provider founded more than 50 years ago, with more than 300 clinicians and over 110 locations in seven states. It offers hands-on training and opportunities for long-term career growth, and emphasizes continuing education and developments in dermatology.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Comfort supporting general medical and procedural patient care, including rooming patients, obtaining medical histories and vital signs, and assisting providers with clinical procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience.
• Excellent attention to detail and organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Collaborative and dependable, and comfortable working as part of a physician-led clinical team.
• Ability and willingness to learn new clinical workflows, technology, and dermatology-specific procedures.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel to nearby practice locations based on business and patient-care needs.
• Standing and walking for extended periods; moderate talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing; use of hands and fingers; handling paper and supplies; lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds; potential exposure to infectious organisms, chemicals, and sharp objects.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a medical or clinical setting; dermatology experience is a plus.
• Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, unless otherwise required by state law.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
• 1–2 years of recent Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient-care experience.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track.
• CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document intake information in the EMR.
• Coordinate patient flow and support efficient clinic operations.
• Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment, and assist providers with dermatology procedures.
• Prepare and route pathology and laboratory specimens according to insurance requirements.
• Respond to patient questions, clinical task lists, and nurse line messages as directed.
• Clean, sterilize, maintain, and inventory clinical equipment and instruments.
• Maintain medication and supply inventory, remove expired items, and restock clinical areas.
• Support infection control standards and maintain organized, fully stocked clinical spaces.
• Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
• Assist with administration of local anesthetic.
• Handle phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental communications in a timely manner.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
