About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports healthcare teams by providing clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. The role includes direct patient interaction to promote comfort and address concerns, and collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care. Express Care serves patients 18 months and older who need timely medical care for conditions that are not emergencies. Staff are expected to provide compassion and emotional support to patients.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
One to two years of direct Medical Assistant experience or work in the medical field required.
Flexibility to meet scheduling needs, including weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
May be asked to float to Southampton, Amherst, or Greenfield for training, precepting, cross-coverage, or staffing needs.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in Medical Assisting.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
National Certified Medical Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and support their learning by participating in onboarding training.
Escort patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment for providers, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in medical records.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and order and organize educational materials.
Perform general office duties, including answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms; liaise with other departments and advocate for patients using a positive customer-service approach.
Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens for testing; perform phlebotomy when competence is demonstrated.
Maintain immunization inventory and check expiration dates.
Provide immunizations when applicable, with required certification or three years of vaccine-administration experience and provider supervision.
Support departmental quality initiatives, including use of two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
