About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) works in an ambulatory care setting within the administration’s pre-defined scope of practice guidelines for the state where the employee practices. In Sanford Health’s Neurosurgery Clinic, the MA supports patients throughout their surgical journey, coordinating care for patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures, providing pre-operative education, performing post-operative follow-up care, and serving as a resource for patients and families. The role works with neurosurgeons, advanced practice providers, and nursing professionals in a fast-paced outpatient specialty clinic. The MA collects subjective and objective health-status data from patients or caregivers and communicates it to health care providers. Under provider direction, the MA contributes data to licensed health care professionals and follows through on the patient’s plan of care. The MA communicates providers’ written care instructions to patients or caregivers, participates in preventive care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up across the lifespan and care settings, and performs duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. Specialized clinical duties include obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting signs or symptoms, and performing point-of-care testing.
