About The Position

Assists in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management. This role involves a mix of nursing and administrative duties focused on patient care management within an outpatient, clinical care setting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Medical Assistant Training from an Accredited School
  • CPR Certification required and maintained
  • Skill in administering a variety of examination and treatment procedures.
  • Skill in taking vital signs.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and adherence to confidentiality guidelines.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, staff and contacts outside the organization.
  • Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Outlook, practice management systems, and electronic medical record system.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from NHA or AAMA or completed within 6 months of hire date

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment, including taking vital signs and reviewing medications and allergies.
  • Enters health questionnaire information into the electronic medical record.
  • Prepares and maintains exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Administers injections and applies splints and dressings as ordered.
  • Sterilizes instruments and prepares supplies and equipment for treatments.
  • Assists medical providers in preparing for surgical procedures, Pap Smears, and physicals.
  • Verifies all patients by date of birth (DOB) and full name.
  • Performs procedures and accompanying paperwork for EKGs, BP monitoring, staple and suture removal, and Pap Smears.
  • Schedules requested testing and outside physician appointments.
  • Writes or enters required lab orders and prescriptions, providing all information to the patient.
  • Triage telephone calls for referral to a physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Restocks examination rooms weekly or as needed.
  • Obtains lab and lab testing results for medical providers and referring physicians.
  • Enters and updates patient information on the electronic medical record.
  • Obtains referral numbers as needed.
  • Participates in professional development activities, including CPR training, and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as required.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and patient care areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
