About The Position

The Medical Assistant Trainee's primary responsibility is to learn how to assist in the delivery of health care management for the practice. The training program is developed to allow the trainee to actively participate and support the primary clinical teams upon completion. The Medical Assistant Trainee is a professional member of the interdisciplinary team and consistently demonstrates and promotes the values of the organization. The Medical Assistant Trainee will work with and receive supervision from the practice manager, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They will learn how to participate in data collection, planning and implementation of patient care as well as acting in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred
  • BLS/CPR: current or within 60 days of hire; through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Engaged student during classroom and didactic education, including basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and abbreviations, patient education and safety, and other applicable training.
  • Actively learns and participates in performing tasks such as vital signs, intake and output measurements, EKGs, glucometry, phlebotomy, specimen collection, updating medication lists, updating allergies, updating personal, family, and social history, inquiring about smoking status, and obtaining the reason for the visit.
  • Documentation for all assigned responsibilities.
  • Actively participates during shadowing and precepting to learn tasks, activities, or responsibilities such as maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives, scheduling appointments and tracking referrals, capturing patient demographic information, conducting pre-visit planning, completing pre-charting, sending messages to the Care Team, prepping patients for examination, escorting patients into the exam room, reviewing in-basket clinical pool messages, and maintaining the referral work queue.
  • Upon completion of the training program, participates in testing and validation of skills learned to move into a role within the network.
