About The Position

This role is for a Medical Assistant specializing in Substance Use Treatment (OBOT). The position involves preparing patients for provider visits by taking vital signs and assisting with diagnostic procedures. A key responsibility includes managing the organization and coordination of Suboxone and Vivitrol schedules, distributing patients across sites and provider time blocks, and maintaining a provider registry for patients receiving MAT. The Medical Assistant will provide support throughout all phases of patient treatment, including screening, intake, induction, stabilization, and maintenance. This role also requires tracking, following up on, and reporting diagnostic services and their results, communicating with providers, patients, and families, and maintaining the treatment database with patient health information. The position requires attendance at mandatory meetings and trainings, and the ability to work independently on projects. The candidate must demonstrate understanding and commitment to the health center's mission, values, and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience preferred
  • Work experience similar to a medical office environment
  • Computer skills for accurate data entry
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • AHA BLS Health Care Provider certification or equivalent
  • Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced medical office environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Medical Office Assistant or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for visits with providers by performing and recording vital signs (including: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, and other procedures as needed)
  • Assists in preparing patients for routine diagnostic procedures (i.e. urine specimens) and performing selected POC screening tests
  • Manages patient care in collaboration with clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Organizes and coordinates Suboxone and Vivitrol schedules, distribution of patients across sites and provider time blocks
  • Manages provider registry for patients receiving MAT
  • Provides support during screening, intake, induction, stabilization and maintenance phases of patient treatment
  • Tracks, follows up on, and reports diagnostic services, diagnostic test results, referrals for diagnostic tests, tracking of results and closing the loop for all test results
  • Communicates with providers, patients and the patient’s families when appropriate
  • Assists with maintaining the treatment database with health information for those patients enrolled in the program and pertinent to any associated grants
  • Attends mandatory program meetings and trainings
  • Works independently on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects as needed
  • Demonstrates understanding and commitment of the health center mission
  • Demonstrates understanding and commitment to the established CHC Values and Standards
  • Performs other job related duties as required or assigned
