About The Position

The Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) serves adults 18 years of age and older, providing intensive community-based treatment, support, and rehabilitation to individuals with a serious persistent mental illness (SPMI) or a dual diagnosis of SPMI and a Substance Use Disorder, who require a high level of service needs. The Substance Use Counselor provides psychoeducation counseling and support to individuals and groups with substance use disorders, leveraging both professional training and personal recovery experience. This role involves educating clients and their families about behavioral health and substance use disorders, treatment options, and coping strategies, as well as coordinating and managing client care with community providers and other referral agencies to ensure comprehensive and continuous treatment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of substance use disorders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with associate’s degree working in a setting with individuals with substance use problems.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with a bachelor’s degree working in a setting with individuals with substance use problems.

  • Personal experience with recovery and a commitment to supporting others on their journey is highly valued in this role.
  • C.A.C. or C.A.D.C. preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychoeducation counseling and support to individuals and groups with substance use disorders, utilizing both professional training and personal recovery experience.
  • Educate clients and their families about behavioral health and substance use disorders, treatment options, and coping strategies.
  • Coordinate and manage client care with community providers and other referral agencies to ensure comprehensive and continuous treatment in collaboration with the client’s assigned clinician/therapist and clinical team.
  • Meet all requirements of program contracts, including productivity, caseload management, reporting, and timeliness of client contact.
  • Perform tox screens, including observed urine screens, oral swabs, and/or hair testing.
  • Attend training sessions conducted by CHR staff or external consultants as requested or required.
  • Actively participate as a full member of the treatment team, attending all staff meetings and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as needed.
