About The Position

This role is for a Medical Assistant in an OBGYN setting. The primary duties involve direct patient care, including patient history collection, assisting with procedures, patient education, and charting. The position also includes significant clerical responsibilities such as managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance. Environmental responsibilities include maintaining exam rooms, instruments, and equipment, as well as managing supplies and infection control. Clinical medical assisting responsibilities are varied and may include asepsis, vital signs, drug administration, minor surgery assistance, laboratory procedures, and electrocardiography, all within the scope of practice and state law. Leadership duties may involve assisting the Medical Office Manager with staffing, training, supervision, and delegation, and potentially serving as the office's EMR Tech.

  • Adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with preparation for exams, collecting patient history, performing screenings, assisting physicians/nurses with procedures, charting, relaying instructions, and answering calls.
  • Provide safe, accurate, and clinically competent direct patient care.
  • Identify patient needs for education in wellness or illness and provide appropriate information.
  • Communicate information to other members of the health care team.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities including managing patient medical records, obtaining reports, completing forms, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance and demographics, and updating charts.
  • Fulfill environmental responsibilities including setting up instruments and equipment, cleaning exam/procedure rooms and equipment, maintaining sterilizers, ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Fulfill organizational responsibilities including respecting patient rights and sharing staff/patient-related issues with supervisors.
  • Recognize patient abnormalities or urgent problems and seek appropriate assistance; respond to emergency codes.
  • Fulfill clinical medical assisting responsibilities which may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, vital signs, physical examination preparations, pharmacology, drug administration, prescription verifications, minor surgery assists, biohazard waste disposal, therapeutic modalities, patient instruction, laboratory procedures (including OSHA guidelines, CLIA-waived testing, capillary and venipunctures, specimen handling), and electrocardiography.
  • Assist the Medical Office Manager with staffing, training, supervising, and delegating assignments.
  • Serve as the office’s EMR Tech.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
