About The Position

This role involves providing medical assistance and potentially LPN duties within the Adel Clinic. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for recognizing and responding to urgent patient needs, adhering to payor regulations, and managing the electronic medical record. Key functions include facilitating interdisciplinary communication, assessing and educating patients and families, assisting with procedures and diagnostic equipment, maintaining aseptic technique, and accurately documenting patient interactions. The role also involves performing basic medical assistant functions under provider supervision, maintaining exam room appearance and supplies, and potentially cross-covering other clinic areas. Equipment maintenance and participation in performance improvement projects are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize urgent/emergent patient needs and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Function within payor regulations.
  • Manage the electronic medical record, including test results, filing, and charging.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and utilize the healthcare team for patient assessment.
  • Assess and address learning needs of patients and families.
  • Provide accurate and complete information to patients and families.
  • Evaluate patient and family understanding of treatment plans.
  • Assist with procedures, exams, and operation of diagnostic equipment (e.g., EKG, spirometry, tympanometry).
  • Maintain appropriate aseptic technique for procedures and medications.
  • Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record.
  • Report results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.
  • Function according to the limitations of license or certification.
  • Perform basic medical assistant functions (vitals, rooming, assisting with procedures, immunizations, medication injections) under provider supervision.
  • Maintain professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
  • Maintain supplies in assigned area.
  • Cross-cover in other clinic areas as team needs.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocol, identify problems, and coordinate repairs.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects.
