About The Position

The Medical Assistant Lead participates in the delivery of excellent medical services in a patient-centered environment with an emphasis on disease prevention, patient preparation for examination and/or procedures, administering medications under the direction of a provider, performing in-office lab procedures and phlebotomy on pediatric and adult patients, and sterilizing instruments while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations. This role actively participates in and supports quality improvement activities and clinical practice teams. The position also includes peripheral site supervisory responsibilities in Virginia City, Carson City School Based, and Willow St. in Reno.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Certification of completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience
  • National certification through NHA as a Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA). If not currently nationally certified must obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • BLS/CPR Certification

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years experience as a medical assistant in family medicine, pediatrics, or OB/GYN or 1 year experience in a medical assistant lead role
  • English/Spanish fluency
  • Skill in operating computer databases; EHR/EMR
  • Ability to read, write, and calculate mathematical figures
  • Knowledge of general office practices in a medical setting
  • Knowledge of medical examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
  • Skill in identifying and communicating problems and finding solutions
  • Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively, and sensitively to underserved populations
  • Knowledge of ADA, CPT, and ICD-9-CM coding

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and treatment rooms for examination and treatment
  • Take patient histories and vital signs
  • Administer injections and apply dressings as instructed
  • Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
  • Observe all infection control policies
  • Assist providers in preparing for minor surgeries and exams
  • Assist with scheduling tests and treatments
  • Complete and maintain patient documentation, files, records and other information
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested
  • Works closely with the providers to receive guidance and instruction for treating patients
  • Maintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with supervisors, providers, staff and patients to ensure coordinated efforts and provision of high-quality service
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect center assets and property against loss or waste through negligence or dishonesty
  • Utilizes equipment that interfaces with NVHC EMR system (e.g. EKG, spirometry, etc.)
  • Assist in overseeing staff call outs, schedules, and clinic coverage
  • Provide continued staff training
  • Assign responsibilities to staff: Provider assignments, Referral logs, Control logs, Diagnostic logs, Lab logs, PKU logs, Community Referral logs, Vaccine fridge temp logs, Spirometer calibration, Phones, Shredding
