About The Position

Corewell Health operates over 300 outpatient clinics across Michigan, offering a wide range of care options. The Medical Assistant III will perform and oversee clinical activities, including maintaining patient flow, assisting with primary and preventative healthcare delivery, performing technical procedures, and adhering to lab protocols under physician/provider direction. This role supports management in achieving office efficiencies and promoting customer satisfaction through the "Service First" philosophy. The Medical Assistant III acts as an assistant to physicians/providers, manages patient care, collaborates with clerical staff for optimal operations, and interacts with external healthcare facilities. They must maintain updated competencies and be able to discuss processes with leadership and accreditation bodies. Front office duties and coverage in other departments or locations may be required. Excellent customer service skills and support for patient and family-centered care are essential. Additionally, Medical Assistant IIIs are formally assigned two primary responsibilities that constitute at least 20% of their dedicated time, chosen from a list including gap in care identification, residency clinic roles, high-level disinfection, new hire preceptor duties, participation in special programs, care management, qualified language interpretation, EPIC Super User, or advanced provider support for complex procedures/scheduling. A flexible float pool assignment across multiple sites is also a possibility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a competency-based accredited MA program, including a clinical rotation, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year (12 months) MA experience; or completed CH MA internship and (6) months MA experience; or completed CH MA apprenticeship program
  • 2 years of MA experience

Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative health care.
  • Performs technical procedures, lab protocols and clinically oriented activities under physician/provider direction.
  • Assists management in achieving office efficiencies in accordance with stated policies/procedures.
  • Supports physicians, clinic staff and management to promote customer satisfaction.
  • Acts as an assistant to the physician/provider by providing primary healthcare and patient care management.
  • Collaborates work efforts with the clerical staff to optimize operations and patient flow.
  • Interacts with outside healthcare facilities and agencies involving patient care and insurance.
  • Maintains updated competencies, demonstrating ability to speak to leadership and accreditation bodies about process and workflow.
  • Perform front office duties to provide coverage as needed.
  • Provide coverage in other departments or locations as needed.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer services skills and supports the model of patient and family centered care.
  • Perform and is formally assigned (2) of the additional responsibilities as part of their primary duties, which should be at least 20% or more of dedicated time: Primary Care gaps in care identification, outreach, and chart preparation, Residency clinic role, High level disinfection, Designated new hire preceptor, Role in practice participating in or leading special programs/grants (i.e. CPC Plus, SIM, Vaccine for Child Program, process improvement, service excellence ambassador), Care management (PDCMs), Qualified language interpreter, Super User for EPIC or specific competency, Advanced provider support – assisting with complex procedures and/or infusion/chemo scheduling.
