About The Position

The Medical Assistant II supports UT Health Services and Employee Health by providing safe, effective, and patient-centered care to patients, including employees. The ideal candidate has at least one year of experience in an ambulatory or clinic setting, with skills in injections, phlebotomy, and EKGs. This role requires a punctual, dependable team player who takes initiative and values collaboration. The MA assists with health screenings, immunizations, and clinical procedures while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and a caring approach to every interaction. Requirements

  • At least one year of experience in an ambulatory or clinic setting
  • Skills in injections, phlebotomy, and EKGs
  • Punctual, dependable team player who takes initiative and values collaboration
  • Use and care of standard clinic equipment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) required or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologist (AMT) required or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing required or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required
  • Certification may be substituted for Medical Assistant training program required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program OR one (1) year of experience (in addition to the one year of experience required to meet the experience requirement) AND certification may be substituted for Medical Assistant training program.
  • One year of related experience
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
  • Effectively participates in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic specific requirements are available.
  • Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic. Keeps patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments.
  • As required and competency validated, performs appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks rooms (daily/weekly) and clinic supplies in advance of clinic visit as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients.
  • Prepares for and assists with routine and specialty procedures.
  • Schedules patients for follow up appointments or referrals and performs routine clerical duties for team and staff to include photocopying, scanning and faxing.
  • Performs telephone messaging and in person screening with appropriate follow up.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
