About The Position

The Medical Assistant II provides direct patient care under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, adhering to organizational standards. Responsibilities can differ based on the clinic and may involve rooming patients, assisting providers, documenting vital signs and patient histories, performing blood draws and point-of-care testing, communicating with patients about instructions and results, supporting patient flow, performing general laboratory work and front-office tasks, completing registration and scheduling, maintaining EMR documentation, entering computerized physician orders, and precepting other Medical Assistants or MA Externs. The role operates within a team-based environment, often with around 16 Medical Assistants per location, emphasizing a relationship-based, patient-centered care model focused on collaboration, continuity of care, and high-quality patient experiences.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required
  • Current Medical Assistant certification from one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA), American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare workers required
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA requirements
  • Familiarity with ICD‑10 and CPT coding
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Understanding of insurance plans and third‑party payers
  • Ability to meet clinical competency requirements per current clinical, point‑of‑care, and skills policies
  • Basic math proficiency and strong attention to accurate data collection and entry

Nice To Haves

  • TB validation to administer or read (or obtained within 6 months of hire, preferred)
  • Additional advanced life support certifications may be required by clinic or specialty

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients and assisting providers during clinical visits
  • Obtaining and documenting vital signs and patient histories
  • Performing blood draws and point‑of‑care testing (e.g., urine testing)
  • Communicating with patients regarding instructions, test results, and follow‑ups
  • Supporting smooth patient flow and ensuring ordered procedures and treatments are completed
  • Performing general laboratory work and front-office support as needed
  • Completing registration and scheduling activities per departmental procedures
  • Maintaining accurate EMR documentation
  • Entering computerized physician orders when directed by the assigned physician
  • Precepting Medical Assistants or MA Externs as requested by leadership
