About The Position

The Medical Assistant II (MA) in Family & Sports Medicine - Capital is a full-time position responsible for direct patient care and clinical direction. This role involves ensuring the completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, managing patient flow, performing general lab work, educating patients on procedures and treatments, and accurately carrying out medical orders and referrals in a timely manner. The position also includes registration, scheduling, maintaining EMR files, and performing general front office functions. The MA may also perform computerized physician order entry under physician direction and is expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs. This role operates under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, adhering to organizational standards.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a MA program REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Responsibilities

  • Room patients of all ages (recording vital signs)
  • Administer vaccines
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Prepare and process lab specimens
  • Manage patient messages and phone communications (Administrative duties include working messages, referrals, and office PA's)
  • Support providers and clinic workflow
  • Provide excellent patient care and customer service
  • May assist providers with minor office procedures
  • Assures completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assures smooth patient flow
  • Performs general lab work
  • Instructs patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensures medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Performs registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintains EMR files and performs general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
