About The Position

This role is for a Medical Assistant II in a Rheumatology clinic located in Carmel. The ideal candidate thrives in a small, fast-paced clinic environment and demonstrates qualities such as being organized, reliable, eager to learn, team-oriented, and able to work independently when needed. The position involves a mix of clinical, administrative, and patient support duties under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician. Responsibilities include direct patient care, ensuring completeness of ordered procedures, managing patient flow, performing general lab work, instructing patients, ensuring medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately, and performing registration and scheduling activities. The role also involves maintaining EMR files, performing front office functions, and potentially precepting MA team members or externs.

Requirements

  • Current certification in medical assisting required
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients according to standard work
  • Reviewing provider schedules and completing chart preparation
  • Prior authorizations and outside CT/MRI pre-certifications
  • Assisting with FMLA and disability paperwork
  • Managing medical records requests
  • Monitoring and responding to clinical pool messages
  • Pulling, reviewing, and addressing RightFax documents
  • Preparing medications per standard work
  • Assisting with in-office procedures
  • Providing patient education when appropriate
  • Administering ordered IM injections per standard work
  • Cleaning exam rooms between patients and at the end of each day
  • Stocking exam rooms daily
  • Supporting the MA team and assisting non-assigned providers as needed
  • Assures completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assures smooth patient flow
  • Performs general lab work
  • Instructs patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensures medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Performs registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintains EMR files and performs general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
