Wentworth Health Partners Rheumatology, located in a state-of-the-art facility at 10 Members Way, Dover, NH, is a full-service practice specializing in adults with arthritis, osteoporosis, musculoskeletal pain disorders, and systemic autoimmune diseases, including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Gout, Joint Pain, Lupus, Neck & Back Pain, and Raynaud's Syndrome. The organization is hiring a per-diem Medical Assistant to cover shifts at its Rheumatology practices in Dover and Portsmouth during operating hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm. This role is crucial for filling staffing gaps due to call-outs, vacations, leaves, and vacancies. It offers the opportunity to work independently at the top of your certification, contribute to a highly collaborative care team, and gain additional skills through cross-training at the front desk. The ideal candidate will have direct patient care experience and be comfortable supporting both 30-minute and 1-hour patient visits. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers, involving direct interaction with patients to ensure comfort and address concerns, and collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care. Flexibility, strong attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment are key to success.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course or diploma program or at least one year of professional experience
  • National MA certification through AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT
  • Prior Epic experience
  • Experience in an ambulatory or outpatient setting

Responsibilities

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
  • Rooming patients, taking and documenting vitals, assisting with charting, and supporting care for patients with complex medication regimens.
  • Assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers.
  • Scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow.
  • Direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns.
  • Collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.
