About The Position

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Medical Assistant (MA) for our Cardiology department located within our Heart and Vascular Institute. This role provides clinical support to physicians and mid-level providers, including patient preparation, vital sign acquisition, documentation of clinical findings, and patient instruction as directed by providers. The MA is responsible for maintaining compliance with OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA regulations, ensuring the completion of duties vital to business operations, and creating a positive impression for patients, families, and visitors. The position emphasizes demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Eligible Medical Assistant Certification/Credential for the state where work is performed
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be acquired during orientation.
  • Medical terminology
  • Computer fluency/literacy
  • Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Organization and prioritization skills
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working in a medical setting

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with electronic medical records software, ie. EPIC

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exam and acquires vital signs, weight, general history, and current medication list when required.
  • Documents all clinical findings and patient response to interventions, i.e., history, medications, vital signs, weight, and testing results.
  • Collects and provides to the provider the completed Laboratory/test findings Intake Form, and physician referral information, Diagnostic Imaging, or Cardiopulmonary test results as they are available.
  • Provides instruction to patients under the direction of the provider.
  • Maintains adequate level of supplies in exam rooms and work station.
  • Cleans and disinfects exam rooms.
  • Reports malfunction of equipment to department supervisor.
  • Provides assistance to Clerical Coordinator/Registrar as needed.
  • Assists with completion of referral process, outpatient testing, pre-certification and scheduling.
  • Timely and accurate collection/distribution of all patient information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
