About The Position

As an PH Medical Assistant within the Hall County Health Department, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways. District 2 Public Health serves 13 counties in northeast Georgia, including Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties. This is one of the fastest growing regions in the state, and District 2 includes rural and urban communities with diverse public health challenges.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; or High School diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in medical assisting.
  • Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university with one (1) year experience in a related field; or High School diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience in medical assisting; or Two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Medical Assistant 1 (HCT100) or position equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision, performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the physician on duty.
  • Handles front office duties which include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding for insurance purposes.
  • Assists in the clinic by taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and drawing blood.
  • Obtains vital signs from patients
  • Obtains blood samples from patients
  • Prepares blood and urine specimens for testing.
  • Packages and labels lab samples to send to outside labs
  • Inputs lab tests and results into EMR systems
  • Cleans instruments and sends out controls for testing
  • Follows standard precautions when dealing with lab samples
  • Other duties as assigned
