About The Position

Hendricks Community Hospital Association is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Medical Lab Tech or Medical Lab Scientist. This PRN position involves performing a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures, and related duties. The role utilizes scientific principles and technical skills for daily laboratory operations, quality control, and quality assurance. The pay range for this position is $26.40 - $35.00 per hour, with the actual rate dependent upon experience. This is an on-call position that includes evenings, weekends, and holiday rotations.

Requirements

  • Transcript showing Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician degree MLS-Medical Laboratory Scientist or MLT-American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 year or American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 year
  • One or two years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties.
  • Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations, quality control, and quality assurance.
  • Coordinates work flow with other team members to ensure a productive and efficient work environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality when dealing with all customers.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of lab instrumentation or disciplines including but not limited to: supply inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, etc.
  • Initiates and follows through with corrective action.
  • Accurately performs basic to complex clinical lab tests and procedures utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques and equipment manuals.
  • Communicates lab data and pertinent technical information to appropriate departments and individuals in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Critiques, correlates and differentiates results of tests and assesses the validity of results which appear unusual, or which may differ significantly from previous results or expected values.
  • Participates with development of protocols, lab manuals, new instrumentation, lab CQI or other laboratory developmental activities.
  • Provides technical guidance to and is a primary resource for phlebotomy and lab assistants.
  • Provides instruction and/or performs specimen collection.
  • Maintains a general understanding of test theory as acquired through formal education, experience, and continuing education.
