About The Position

Matrix Providers is hiring a Medical Appointment Clerk to join their team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Basic medical terminology required.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) certification.
  • Minimum of one-year professional experience in medical office scheduling.
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM.
  • Proficient in computers, data entry, word processing, and standard office equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical documentation.
  • Experience maintaining, reviewing, and verifying patient medical records and healthcare data.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules appointments in a government computer system for primary care, specialty and subspecialty medical care.
  • Calls patients or responds to secure messaging submissions to schedule, reschedule, and/or cancel appointments as needed, including appointments for consult/referral specialty care within the MTF or at civilian facilities.
  • Provide administrative and front-desk support, including patient check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and follow-up coordination.
  • Answer 25-35 daily phone calls, assist 50+ patients/visitors daily, and manage 50+ secure patient messages daily.
  • Coordinate patient referrals, specialty appointments, and care with internal and external providers.
  • Process 50+ daily medical data forms, maintain electronic medical records, scan clinical documents, and ensure data accuracy.
  • Schedule 20-30 patient appointments daily while maintaining clinic records, reports, and workload statistics.
  • Support clinic operations through quality assurance activities, meetings, training, and other administrative functions as assigned.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities while supporting a busy healthcare team serving 268+ military, civilian, and support personnel.
