Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • One year of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle setting preferably in a hospital/facility setting in patient billing, registration or relevant area
  • Two years of experience or training in customer service, healthcare, or related field
  • Successful completion of DHS Medicaid Enrollment Clerical System training within one (1) year of hire date.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate with others effectively.
  • Strong computer/basic keyboard skills, telephone skills and general knowledge of office machines including printers.
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
  • Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check
  • Pre-employment screening (criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s with an emphasis in health/business related field preferred or commensurate work experience.
  • Associate Degree or two years of college.
  • Two year of Medicaid enrollment experience or experience in insurance related to healthcare.
  • CHAA certification (Certified Healthcare Access Associate)
  • Understanding Medicaid/DHS –comprehensive knowledge.
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory and compliance organizations/agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Verify and process Medicaid cases.
  • Analyze patient responsibility.
  • Prepare budgets.
  • Document case outcomes.
  • Obtain a broad knowledge of Medicaid categories and the ability to learn and determine eligibility for at least twenty Medicaid categories.
  • Utilize knowledge of DHS programs and UAMS internal programs.
  • Obtain a comprehensive understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures with the ability to perform the requirements associated with the Medicaid Enrollment team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Processes Medicaid cases in the most efficient and cost effective method.
  • Evaluates existing programs and systems and continues to seek personal and professional growth; analyzes patients’ responsibility by understanding verification of assets, family size, liability, budget, etc.; works Medicaid cases timely, including preparing budgets as directed by DHS policy; works assigned accounts and documents the outcome and status of the Medicaid application in Epic as needed.
  • Keys Medicaid cases into the DHS eligibility system; obtains knowledge of DHS/UAMS programs, policies, and procedures; documents and retrieves eligibility information from different data bases; reviews adult and newborn accounts in Epic that have pending applications and reviews DHS verifications; contacts patents as required to continue processing applications; assists patients and/or care providers, RNs, and social workers with self-pay patients; assist in adding adult and newborn AR DHS Medicaid applications.
  • Acts as a resource for the Medicaid Enrollment team; develops and maintains knowledge of Medicaid/UAMS policies and procedures, maintains current knowledge of all federal and state regulatory mandates and requirements including but not limited to Medicare, EMTALA HIPAA, and Joint Commission; successfully completes annual competency tests and competency testing and training required to validate skills; interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner.
