About The Position

The University of Oklahoma Division of Student Affairs is seeking undergraduate students located in the Norman area to serve as media and news specialists for the Esports and Co-Curricular Innovation program. Media specialists will be responsible for script writing, conceptualizing, filming, and editing videos. News specialists will be responsible for researching, writing, interviewing, and editing articles. The role requires creating quality content that reflects the program's culture, maintaining strong planning and time management, and ensuring respectful interactions. Active communication with teams and leadership is expected, with a response time of within 24 hours for official communications. The Media Team handles all video content for social media and websites, requiring knowledge of the video-making process. The News Team is responsible for articles on the Sooner Esports website and Crimson Collective Journal, adhering to professional journalism standards.

Requirements

  • Must be a current or incoming OU Student and enrolled in the SUMMER and/or FALL semester(s).
  • Applicants must be located in the Norman or OKC Metropolitan area to be considered for employment.
  • Must be currently in the OU Esports & Co-Curricular Innovation Program.
  • Discord and email communication knowledge is a must for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • As a media specialist, showcasing abilities in videography, script writing, video editing, and photography are preferred.
  • As a news specialist, demonstrating abilities in news writing, interviewing, researching, and article editing are preferred.
  • Both specialists require good time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others as well as subjects for videos and articles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Esports, the latest gaming technology, and trends.
  • A high level of personal and professional integrity at all times.

  • Previous experience in video game related organizations and jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Creating quality videos or articles that reflect the culture and nature of OU Esports & Co-Curricular Innovation.
  • Maintaining strong planning and time management.
  • Respecting all team members and subjects.
  • Keeping all interactions respectful and harassment-free.
  • Maintaining active communication with respective teams and ECCI leadership.
  • Responding to official team communications (such as Discord and email) within 24 hours whenever reasonably possible.
  • Producing all videos that go out on OU Esports and Co-Curricular Innovation’s social media and websites.
  • Publishing articles on the Sooner Esports website and Crimson Collective Journal.
  • Adhering to professional journalism standards (AP and OU Esports Style Guides).
  • Attending regular weekly meetings.
  • Being attentive to OU Esports events and overall esport or gaming news.
  • Conducting research and interviews for content.
  • Writing, filming, and editing videos for OU Esports social media.
  • Researching, writing, and editing for OU Esports website.
  • Photography and videography.
