About The Position

This position provides technical support for internal and external events, including access to, training on, and support of equipment and functionality of rooms. The role involves the management of event spaces and equipment, providing access, training, and support for event organizers, including weekdays, nights, and weekends. Collaboration with event organizers to understand technical requirements, management of audio-visual setups, lighting arrangements, and other technical components are key. The technician will coordinate the setup and configuration of audio-visual equipment, conduct pre-event equipment checks, and troubleshoot technical issues. Availability during events for on-site support is crucial. The role requires close work with the event coordinator, technology staff, and vendors, including sourcing required equipment and services from external providers. Training sessions for event staff and volunteers on equipment operation will be conducted. Maintaining clear communication channels with all stakeholders and identifying areas for improvement are also part of the responsibilities. Additionally, this position supports the processes and efforts of the administrative services division, including print shop, surplus, and inventory operations. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years’ experience in event support and management OR three years’ experience in event support and management
  • Strong knowledge of audio-visual equipment, lighting systems, and other event-related technologies
  • Ability to work in a high-demand, customer service oriented, stressful environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as events require
  • Demonstrated ability to use exceptional communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating professionalism, empathy, diplomacy, discretion, and integrity in interactions with diverse constituencies
  • High level of proficiency and accuracy in software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
  • Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities
  • Ability to assess situations, exercise independent judgement, resolve issues and coordinate with IT support services when technical issues arise
  • An applicable combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Nice To Haves

  • AA degree
  • Training in A/V event management
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats
  • Bilingual to Spanish and English
  • Experience with PeopleSoft software preferred

  • Maintain clear communication channels with all stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed about technical aspects and changes
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes for future events
  • Support the processes and efforts of the administrative services division, including print shop, surplus and inventory operations
