About The Position

The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents and assists with administering prescribed medications within the established scope of practice. The role requires maintaining knowledge of relevant policies and procedures, supporting residents’ daily routines and activities, responding to calls and emergencies, and communicating resident status and concerns to appropriate staff. The Med Tech also completes medication documentation, medication cart audits, and related coordination with pharmacies and residents’ families or representatives.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Completion of a Medication Aide Course.
Current CNA and Med Tech licenses from the State Board of Nursing, in good standing.
Satisfactorily pass two medication observations annually.
Satisfactorily pass all assigned medication cart audits.
Attend four additional hours of medication administration education annually.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
Able to contribute to the nursing team and follow a supervisor’s instructions.
Polite and considerate toward residents, visitors, and coworkers.
Able to walk and stand for extended periods.
Able to lift 50 pounds and push or carry 25 pounds.
Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
Wear the designated uniform, including a name badge, during working hours.
CPR/First Aid certified or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
Able to represent the community positively and professionally.
Attend and complete required in-services and staff meetings.
Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
Able to remain calm and competent during emergencies.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with activities of daily living and provide quality care.
Administer prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.
Maintain working knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to the position.
Report resident incidents, care concerns, and other issues to appropriate individuals, such as the HCD, RN/LPN, or ED.
Perform housekeeping duties as directed, including making beds and cleaning resident apartments and common areas.
Respond promptly to resident calls for assistance and emergency alerts.
Assist in planning and conducting resident activity programs.
Follow confidentiality policies regarding the release of resident information.
Assist residents to and from the dining room and activities; check on residents and ensure attendance at meals and activities.
Check on residents who are ill and report their status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
Communicate verbally and in writing about resident status, community information, appointments, admissions, and transfers.
Support new residents during move-in transitions, including providing emotional support.
Attend scheduled medication trainings.
Complete assigned medication cart audits and maintain the medication cart as directed.
Pass medication administration observations.
Communicate residents’ medication needs to the HCD and document them in the Daily Log.
Re-order medications, fax requests to the pharmacy, and communicate with residents’ families or representatives as needed about changes.
Document medication administration on the EMAR/MAR and report exceptions to the HCD, documenting them on the EMAR and Daily Log.
Complete other duties as assigned.
