About The Position

This Med/Surg unit in Englewood, CO, is a busy 33-room unit with a capacity for up to 49 patients, including some semi-private rooms. The unit has a total of 62 staff members. During the day shift, staffing includes 2 charge nurses, 2 technicians, and 6-7 registered nurses, with patient ratios of 4:1. The night shift has 1 charge nurse, 1.5 technicians, and 5-6 registered nurses, with patient ratios of 5:1. The unit utilizes telemetry monitoring and Meditech EMR. The ideal candidate is a registered nurse who thrives in a fast-paced environment and prioritizes patient care. This unit specializes in caring for surgical flap patients, particularly those with spinal cord injuries and stage 4 wounds requiring surgical intervention. Collaboration with the burn unit is a key aspect of care, offering staff experience in managing patients with varying acuity levels.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of current hospital Med/Surg experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with spinal cord injury patients.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide wound care, including management of surgical flap patients.
• Occasional bowel program management.
• Provide light burn care for low acuity burn patients.
• Collaborate with the burn unit for patient care.
• Monitor patients using telemetry.
