About The Position

Steel Dynamics is seeking a Mechanical Testing Lab Technician to join their team. This role involves performing various tasks related to mechanical testing, equipment maintenance, and ensuring a safe and clean laboratory environment. The technician will be responsible for sample preparation, conducting tests according to standard procedures, and reporting any equipment issues.

• Mechanically inclined
• Willing to work scheduled & unscheduled overtime
• Ability to work in extreme environments
• Ability to perform repetitive stretching, reaching, lifting and walking to support routine responsibilities.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to drive to pick-up samples from different operating units

Responsibilities

• Perform all tasks according to Steel Dynamics health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Ensure monitoring and measuring equipment is verified before use
• Collect and prepare samples for testing
• Perform and evaluate mechanical tests according to standard procedures
• Perform preventative maintenance on all testing lab equipment
• Report any issues to the Mechanical Testing Lab Lead Technician or the Testing Lab Supervisor
• Work with others to repair Mechanical Testing Lab equipment
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness inside and outside of the lab
