About The Position

R&P Technologies is looking for a motivated Marine Mechanic to join their team supporting various ship classes out of their Chesapeake Facility. R&P Technologies is a small-sized defense contractor providing Engineering, Logistics, Program Management, Technical Services, AIT services & repair to various government clients. The company is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Marine Mechanic to support the inspection, repair, and maintenance of marine engines, propulsion systems, hydraulic components, and related Hull, mechanical and electrical (HM&E) equipment on board vessels. This position is crucial for guaranteeing the safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of the ship’s machinery. The preferred candidate should possess intermediate skills in shipboard installation trades and be willing to learn the basics of electrical and electronic component assembly, installation, and repair methods. Prior mechanical experience with Navy ship systems is required.

Requirements

  • Prior military experience directly related to the position or prior experience within the Maritime Industry (2yrs minimum)
  • Prior experience with US Navy Auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to; Cargo/Aircraft/Weapons Elevators, Watertight Doors and hatches, Hanger Bay Doors, CIWS
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
  • Flexibility with schedule in regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC or DBIDS security credentials
  • Valid Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • OSHA 10 required or willing to obtain
  • Must be PUNCTUAL AND RELIABLE

  • Willingness to learn the basics of electrical and electronic component assembly, installation, and repair methods

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Maritime Mechanical systems
  • Navy tag-out, WAF programs and applicable Naval procedures / instructions
  • Ability to maintain quality and associated documents
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior personnel
  • Understanding of shipboard Mechanical Machinery Equipment and systems such as main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery and hydraulics
  • Ability to troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect Hull, Mechanical and Electric (HM&E) equipment
  • Ability to disassemble, clean, assess and inspect, reassemble and operationally test mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems components such as valves, bearings, gears, remote operators, couplings, system alignment, etc
  • Fully versed in the use of all types of precision measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators and torque wrenches
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals, make red-line drawings, and design recommendations
