About The Position

Rolls-Royce is seeking a creative, talented, and results-driven Mechanical Systems Design Lead to join their LibertyWorks team. This role offers the chance to work on developmental Rolls-Royce programs, tackling complex technological challenges within a global, multi-disciplinary team. The Mechanical Systems Design Lead will be responsible for creating engineering solutions that meet functional and physical requirements for developmental Product Systems and Sub-Systems, ensuring robustness and potentially paving the way for new manufacturing capabilities. Key responsibilities include ensuring the on-time delivery and quality of component design definition artifacts such as documents, models, and definitions that meet system and sub-system requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR Master’s degree in engineering, with 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR JD/PhD in Engineering
  • Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, and verification of complex aerospace mechanical components and/or systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in progressing designs/changes through a gated review process.
  • Experience with aerospace power transmission components and structures.
  • Expertise in the following software applications: Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft Excel
  • Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of gas turbine subsystems and components and their function and operation

Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and execution of the strategy with respect to their area of specialism; is regarded as a thought leader.
  • Leads the definition of capability projects including capturing requirements, creating proposals, achieving stakeholder approval, leading design reviews and architecture development, component definition and verification planning, as well as customer integration.
  • Supports the development and application of new capabilities; leads capability development projects.
  • Leads the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance and business problems using analytical processes and professional judgement.
  • Proactively accesses internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; supports the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships.
  • Provides technical direction to peers and more junior professionals, and technical leadership to teams and projects within their specialism.
  • Supports the definition of skill and professional knowledge within their area of specialism; identifies, co-ordinates and delivers training; supports the development of other specialists; provides active mentoring.
  • Ensures appropriate policies, standards and best practices are defined, shared and adopted.
  • Leads the sharing of Best Practice; represents the area as an authority in their defined subject; provides concise justification for decisions; records and captures salient information in reports and systems.
