About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical construction activities on-site. The role requires leadership in coordinating mechanical crews, ensuring that projects are executed according to schedule, budget, and quality standards, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety. The Mechanical Superintendent will act as the primary point of contact between the mechanical teams, project management, subcontractors, and clients.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Red Seal Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) certification or equivalent recognized trade certification required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical construction supervision, preferably in (Water Control structures, welding and fabrication, civil and cement components) electrical or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, installation procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Proficient in computer systems, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing crews and subcontractors on-site.
  • Excellent understanding of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in complex mechanical scopes including but not limited to, reviewing lift procedures, knowledge of surveyor equipment and results, Removal and installation of actuators and stem screws, motors, drums and cable systems, winch assemblies, machining and tolerances, Welding and painting, Concrete demolition and reinstatement, medium to high-voltage substation construction working around bodies of water or related fields is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily mechanical construction operations to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, timelines, budgets, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise mechanical crews, ensuring effective productivity and adherence to safety practices.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of timesheets and daily reports.
  • Act as liaison between the company, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders to facilitate clear communication and issue resolution.
  • Lead by example in enforcing company safety policies, documenting and reporting incidents, and promoting a proactive safety culture on-site.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to optimize resource allocation including manpower, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain high quality workmanship consistent with design and engineering documents.
  • Mentor and train mechanical team members to enhance skills and ensure best practices.
  • Support project audits and inspections as required.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and development of mechanical craft employees.
