About The Position

The Mechanical Senior Estimator for PCL Industrial Services, Inc. will play a crucial role in reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope. This position involves conducting detailed analysis of contract documents, engineering drawings, isometrics, and specifications. The role requires performing quantity takeoffs for various mechanical systems, developing cost pricing for labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs. Additionally, the Senior Estimator will lead the pricing of project-specific general requirements and expenses, analyze project risks, opportunities, escalation factors, and contingencies. This role also involves leading internal estimate reviews, bid strategy meetings, and estimating teams, as well as coordinating with engineering, procurement, operations, and project management teams. Establishing estimate schedules and critical path timelines is also a key responsibility. The position requires a strong understanding of process flows, P&ID’s, process piping, concrete systems, mechanical equipment installations, and industrial construction methods, with proficiency in Bluebeam and Excel. Knowledge of mechanical codes, ASME, API, AISC specifications, productivity standards, and procurement strategies is essential. The role includes completing estimate turnover, bid recaps, and trade buyout strategies with operations, and supporting project turnover and successful handoff to construction teams.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of process flows, P&ID’s, process piping, concrete systems, mechanical equipment installations, and industrial construction methods.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Excel.
  • Knowledge of mechanical codes, ASME, API, AISC specifications, productivity standards, and procurement strategies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. Equivalent mechanical trade or field experience may be considered.
  • Gold Seal certification in estimating required (CDN).
  • 8-15+ years of mechanical estimating experience.
  • Experience leading estimates and pursuits on projects ranging from $25M to $500M+.
  • Experience estimating industrial, power, manufacturing, energy, data center, or large industrial projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of different construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines.
  • Experience across hard bid/lump sum, GMP, construction management, reimbursable, and design-build delivery methods.
  • Expert in understanding and teaching contract terms for various delivery models and able to identify contract risks and opportunity.
  • Understands different bid processes and contract delivery type methods: Hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices and construction management/cost reimbursable.
  • Ability to lead successful teams.
  • Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with owners, peers and industry representatives, and leverage the industry relationships for a competitive advantage.
