Mechanical/Robotics Engineering Technician I
About The Position
SEL is seeking a Mechanical/Robotics Engineering Technician to join our Product Support and Development - Mechanical team within the Manufacturing Division. This role focuses on developing and integrating mechanical and robotic solutions for manufacturing facilities to enhance safety, reliability, and economy. The day-to-day involves hands-on design, problem-solving, and direct customer interaction, from problem definition to solution integration and project completion. The primary focus is on developing automation solutions using tools such as collaborative/industrial robotics, end-of-arm tooling, computer vision, and custom mechanical tools/fixtures. Responsibilities include CAD work for new and existing designs, ensuring real-world functionality of solutions, participating in design reviews, and providing/receiving feedback. While working as part of a small agile team, the role emphasizes timely and budget-conscious project delivery, alongside personal skill development and supporting the growth of production staff.
Requirements
- 2-year+ technical degree or equivalent combination of training and work experience.
- Competence with applied physics, geometry, algebra, and basic trigonometry.
- CAD experience.
- Approximately 2+ years of experience in three or more of the following areas: Automation integration, Materials and processes, Mechanics, Manufacturing engineering, Electronic manufacturing techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Clear and effective communication skills (written, verbal, and documentation).
- Quick to learn new skills and open to taking on new responsibilities.
- Ability to work well in team environments.
- Must pass a background check and drug test per SEL requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with robotics, especially Universal Robots Cobots.
- Experience with vision systems.
- Experience supporting design, automation, or general engineering in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience writing or running Design of Experiments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate mechanical and robotic solutions for manufacturing facilities.

- Develop personal skillsets and support the growth of production staff skillsets.
