About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer in Germantown, MD, to lead design efforts for low- to moderate-complexity projects and support senior staff on larger, high-complexity work. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and consultants to deliver engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry while helping clients achieve positive outcomes. You’ll also work within project budgets while mentoring team members and collaborating across functions to meet project goals and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of BIM software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems on assigned projects
  • Prepare detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with applicable codes and IMEG standards
  • Partner with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationships
  • Support consulting project execution by leading planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring progress against percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering challenges and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
  • Conduct in-process reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications while applying IMEG quality control processes
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and mechanical engineering best practices, and contribute to innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and help identify and mitigate risks associated with mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions
  • Identify potential project issues and escalate to the Project Manager as needed
  • Support projects through bidding and construction administration phases
