About The Position

Greif is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support engineering solutions to production-process issues by improving existing equipment and components or designing and developing new products. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, the position leads projects and develops and implements equipment and process improvements across an assigned region. It balances hands-on and analytical engineering work. The engineer manages multiple concurrent medium-complexity projects, develops mechanical layouts and technical specifications, improves manufacturing processes, and coordinates project execution with internal and external stakeholders. The role also supports plant maintenance teams with equipment installation, troubleshooting, process control, and repair, and may require independently establishing improvement plans at a facility. Extensive travel is required. The listed location bases are Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; Delaware, Ohio; and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering; Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of project engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with practical mechanical and electrical engineering expertise.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and component design.
  • Hands-on experience with setup, troubleshooting, changeover, automation, and die optimization.
  • Experience with new-product development, design, trials, and material selection.
  • Basic electrical experience related to controls for mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in project engineering and management, including planning, prioritization, implementation, and leading medium-sized projects.
  • Ability to develop detailed plans to improve plant reliability, robustness, and profitability.
  • Ability to learn Greif's internal process and product requirements, support trials, and suggest material selections.
  • Ability to understand and follow electrical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical components and instrumentation and their application to mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to follow controls and programming logic as it relates to manufacturing processes.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical codes.
  • Good communication skills for presenting project ideas and solutions and fostering positive relationships.
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements, regulatory compliance, and industrial safety practices.
  • Understanding of financial details related to ROI and NPV.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office tools, MS Project, and Smartsheet.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
