Early Career Mechanical Process Engineer

Amentum•Detroit, MI
•$70,000 - $90,000•Onsite

About The Position

Amentum is seeking an Early Career Mechanical Process Engineer to join its Advanced Solutions Group. The position may be based in Tullahoma, Tennessee; Farmington Hills, Michigan; or Greenville, South Carolina. The group designs, constructs, and operates specialized research and development facilities for industries including nuclear, automotive, motorsports, defense, and aerospace. The engineer will work on multiple projects as part of a multidisciplinary team, helping deliver client projects within scope, budget, and schedule. Under the direction of a Senior Engineer, the engineer will develop process system designs for research and test facilities; analyze design features and requirements using sound engineering principles; prepare technical reports, presentations, calculations, specifications, and engineering drawing support; and coordinate with clients, project teams, and other engineering disciplines. Design work includes piping and ducting systems and components, high-pressure cryogenic and pneumatic systems, high-temperature and steam systems, refrigeration, vacuum and fuel systems, and specialty HVAC systems. The role is primarily performed in an office, though field work may involve climbing test stands and working around machinery. Travel may be required for design reviews, factory acceptance testing, construction support, and onsite startup and commissioning.
