About The Position

PTS Advance is looking to fill a role for a Mechanical Planner in Martinez, California. A Refinery Mechanical Planner develops detailed work packages for mechanical maintenance and equipment turnaround (shutdown) activities. The role bridges operations and maintenance, determining the step-by-step procedures, labor estimates, materials, and safety protocols required to repair and maintain fixed and rotating refinery equipment safely and efficiently.

Requirements

Typically requires 3–7 years of mechanical maintenance experience within a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environment.
Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics, and complex equipment blueprints.
Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo) and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).

Responsibilities

Create detailed, step-by-step job plans, including craft hour estimates, tooling requirements, and equipment specifications.
Order necessary spare parts, manage Bill of Materials (BOMs), and coordinate with procurement to ensure parts are staged before maintenance begins.
Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), verify equipment isolation, and ensure all plans comply with OSHA and refinery safety standards.
Review incoming notifications, prioritize mechanical backlog, and maintain accurate task lists.
Collaborate with operations, engineering, and contractors to align maintenance schedules with refinery production goals.
