About The Position

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Planner to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible to support weekly maintenance workflow and ongoing outage planning, using established work management systems.

Requirements

  • Possess either a Certification as a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic or A 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate (or equivalent certifications) with a minimum of three (3) years' work experience in modern mechanical maintenance in a generating station, process industry or equivalent industry is required OR Hold a Mechanical Engineering degree eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia, or a Certified Engineering Technologist, or a Technology Diploma in a related field.
  • Strong mechanical expertise in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Proven experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Developed detailed job scope(s) for mechanical or industrial work.
  • Project management experience in high-volume, deadline-oriented environments.
  • Relevant experience in skilled maintenance roles, particularly in maintaining heavy industrial equipment in modern power generation facilities or similar industrial settings.
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including building partnerships across functional groups.
  • Energetic self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner.
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills with a strong customer focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous planning and supervisory experience are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support weekly workflow and outage planning, including scoping work, developing technical work packages, coordinating operational items, contractor planning, and enhancing preventative maintenance efficiencies.
  • Support the preventative maintenance program.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining annual shutdown packages and integrate shutdown packages into the overall plant outage schedule.
  • Scoping work defects, identifying materials to be procured and participate in the plant procurement process, as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Group, at the Point Tupper Generating Station, and other internal and external stakeholders to optimize planned work and ensure it is integrated into workflows.
  • Attend and participate in planning meetings.
  • Provide support for programs required to plan and execute operational and capital project work, including NSPI’s Contractor Safety Program.
  • Prioritize regular travel to various NS Power sites across the province as required.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
