About The Position

The Mechanical / Packaging Design Release Engineer (DRE) leads the design, packaging, release, and execution of shields and related mechanical interfaces for 12V components in vehicle programs. The role translates system and vehicle requirements into robust solutions for generators, inverters, converters, battery vent tubes, jump start nuts, and related hardware, supporting performance, manufacturability, serviceability, quality, and program timing. The engineer owns mechanical design and package integration, develops requirements, design concepts, packaging studies, and release documentation, and ensures designs meet vehicle packaging, environmental, mounting, sealing, durability, service, thermal, and assembly needs. The role involves creating and reviewing drawings, specifications, BOMs, and engineering changes; integrating packages into the vehicle; and resolving interface and clearance issues. The DRE collaborates with electrical, systems, packaging, vehicle integration, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier teams. Responsibilities also include CAD reviews, tolerance studies, DFMEA, DVP&R and validation planning, supplier technical reviews, prototype and production build support, root-cause investigation, corrective actions, and delivery against program timing, cost, quality, and performance targets. Success means releasing shields on time, meeting package and program requirements, resolving integration concerns early, achieving robust installation and protection, and meeting quality, cost, manufacturability, and performance targets. The position requires close collaboration, technical leadership, issue resolution, and execution of deliverables against aggressive milestones. GM describes its vision as a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and emphasizes inclusion and belonging. Benefits resources are available through GM Total Rewards; specific benefits are not listed in the posting.
