About The Position

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician provides general support in craft skills needed to construct, repair, and maintain plant equipment, utilities, buildings, and related structures. The technician performs skilled maintenance tasks, sets up, adjusts, operates, and maintains shop tools, and uses fabrication and maintenance equipment such as oxygen and acetylene torches, welding machines, band saws, portable power tools, and standard tools. The role also involves operating forklifts and other maintenance-related mobile equipment. The technician helps install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test, and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical plant equipment. Work includes welding and torch cutting on minor assignments, equipment alignment and rebuilding, fabrication, pipefitting, rigging, and general cleanup. The technician maintains daily work logs, follows storeroom checkout and CMMS procedures, observes safe work practices, and completes assignments independently or with other mechanics. Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor. The work takes place indoors and outdoors in varied weather and working conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, grease, oils, dust, and dirty environments. The position involves standing, climbing, walking on elevated catwalks, working at heights, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Rotating shifts are required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Five years of related experience; technical educational training through an accredited vocational school may be considered in lieu of experience.
Good mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work with others as a team.
Must pass industrial maintenance testing for advancement.
Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform the physical activities described for the role.

Responsibilities

Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment throughout the plant.
Perform minor electrode welding and acetylene torch cutting assignments.
Align motors, gearboxes, and pumps.
Inspect, align, and replace belts, sheaves, chains, and sprockets.
Rebuild valves, cylinders, simple mechanical drives, and similar devices.
Fabricate simple structures, braces, equipment, and other items from steel, sheet metal, or wood.
Perform pipefitting using screwed, flanged, welded, and glued pipe and fittings for air, water, hydraulic, and steam systems.
Perform rigging using chain falls, jacks, forklifts, crane scaffolds, and related equipment.
Perform surface preparation and cleanup.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on plant mechanical equipment as specified.
Maintain daily work logs.
Manufacture parts or equipment within the scope of qualifications as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Test repaired or newly installed equipment; replace guards and floor grates and remove tools, parts, and rags after completing assignments.
Follow checkout procedures when removing items from the storeroom.
Use CMMS procedures to report follow-up work and work identified during preventive maintenance.
Practice safe working habits and promote safety to others.
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant equipment, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment as qualified.
Complete work assignments independently or with assistance from other mechanics.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
