About The Position

BlueScope Coated Products is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their Maintenance Team. This role is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing production equipment. The technician will develop and implement maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability, optimize maintenance costs, maximize equipment availability, and reduce unsafe conditions. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position plays a crucial role in the operational efficiency and safety of the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial maintenance position.
  • Mechanical capability to repair and/or analyze production equipment.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment, overhead crane, and rigging principles.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand blueprints, manuals, and assembly directions.
  • Proficient communication skills – particularly, the ability to explain complex mechanical issues.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work, such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and bending for extended periods of time.
  • Reliability, dependability, and self-motivation.
  • Demonstrates strong computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and use new systems.
  • Demonstrates strong practical aptitude in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues; able to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Good, professional communication skills.
  • Ability to learn processes, equipment specifications, and company standards through active use of resources, manuals, training, policies, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test as a condition of employment.

  • Technical degree/certifications preferred.
  • Metals, coating, roll forming, or industrial maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, hydraulic and/or pneumatic components in manufacturing equipment.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain a preventative maintenance program on engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, hydraulics, conveyor systems, and production machines to improve reliability.
  • Perform routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance.
  • Study equipment manuals to develop audit items and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Perform basic welding duties, fabricating fixtures, jigs, guarding, etc., as needed.
  • Install or assist in the installation of new equipment, including proper layout and alignment.
  • Make preventative maintenance checks and inspections as required and on time.
  • Evaluate equipment malfunctions with a sense of urgency to minimize downtime.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
  • Modify equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
  • Perform tasks in a quality fashion by meeting or exceeding internal customer requirements.
  • Perform Roll Grinder duties, including safely preparing applicator and squeegee rolls per standard work to support coating quality and paint line production.
  • Communicate professionally with plant personnel regarding important repair steps taken, parts ordered, and estimated time to complete repairs or projects.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping expectations for work area, equipment, and tools.
  • Engage in cross-functional maintenance training and knowledge sharing to strengthen team capability and operational resilience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
