About The Position

Coffman Engineers' Anchorage office is seeking an energetic, curious, and self-motivated entry-level to early-career Mechanical Engineer to join their HVAC and building systems design team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer eager to build technical skills on challenging projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with experienced engineers and project managers on the planning and design of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include gaining hands-on experience with system design, equipment selection, specifications, heating and cooling load calculations, and construction documents, while developing a strong foundation in consulting engineering. The team supports diverse clients and projects in healthcare, education, local and federal government, and commercial facilities. Opportunities may arise for exposure to commissioning, energy modeling, and projects designed for Alaska’s unique climate. The ideal candidate enjoys problem-solving, is eager to learn, communicates well, and thrives in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0–3 years of engineering experience.
  • Strong interest in HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to begin employment in Q1 2027.

Nice To Haves

  • Passing score on FE Exam.
  • HVAC, thermodynamics, heat transfer, or other building-systems-related coursework.
  • Experience with Revit or similar design software through coursework, internships, or professional experience.
  • Internship or professional experience in consulting engineering, HVAC, plumbing, or building systems.
  • Exposure to Arctic or Subarctic design considerations.
