About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking an energetic, curious, and self-motivated entry-level to early-career Mechanical Engineer to join their team in the Anchorage office. The successful applicant will join the mechanical engineering team focused on HVAC and building systems design. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer excited to build technical skills while contributing to meaningful and challenging projects. As part of a collaborative, multi-discipline team, the engineer will work alongside experienced professionals on the planning and design of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems. This role involves gaining hands-on experience with system design, equipment selection, specifications, heating and cooling load calculations, and construction documents, while developing a strong foundation in consulting engineering. The mechanical team supports a diverse range of clients and projects, including healthcare, education, local and federal government, and commercial facilities. Depending on project needs, exposure to commissioning, energy modeling, and projects designed for Alaska’s unique climate may also be possible. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, is eager to learn, communicates well, and thrives as part of a team, seeking an opportunity to learn from experienced engineers, take on increasing responsibility, and build a well-rounded mechanical engineering career.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis from an ABET-accredited program
  • 0–3 years engineering experience
  • Strong interest in HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to begin employment in Q1 2027

Nice To Haves

  • Passing score on FE Exam
  • HVAC, thermodynamics, heat transfer, or other building-systems-related coursework
  • Experience with Revit or similar design software through coursework, internships, or professional experience
  • Internship or professional experience in consulting engineering, HVAC, plumbing, or building systems
  • Exposure to Arctic or Subarctic design considerations
