About The Position

Merrick & Company is seeking a Mechanical Equipment Designer to join the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in Aiken, SC. This role involves designing prototype/one-off custom equipment, including gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment, and custom-designed mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. The designer will work with and lead small teams to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages for custom equipment, under the direction of a project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems, material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems, and pressure vessels.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 0 to 4 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Expert proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill.
  • Familiarity with other 3D systems (CATIA, SolidWorks or equal).
  • Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets and design record documents.
  • Ability to acquire a security clearance.
  • US Citizenship required for client projects.

  • Associates Degree
  • 2D software (AutoCAD) and Autodesk Revit.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments.
  • Hands-on experience with typical equipment.
  • Local candidate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages of custom equipment.
  • Prepare component, subassembly, and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models.
  • Create detailed fabrication drawing packages.
  • Evaluate and select purchased components.
  • Create detailed Bills of Materials.
  • Complete equipment datasheets.
  • Establish model structure and drawing tree architecture.
  • Maintain file naming conventions and Windchill folders.
  • Direct the activities of less experienced team members.
  • Provide checking support for deliverables.
  • Conduct design activities following regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.
