About The Position

This role involves building, repairing, and preparing articles for testing, along with associated auxiliary equipment. The technician will install test articles into test structures, perform tests according to set methods and procedures, and ensure accurate and reliable test results. A deep understanding of test equipment functionality and its contribution to test validity is required. The position also includes configuring and operating data acquisition systems, analyzing data, and assessing the product's contribution to test validity. Responsibilities extend to test stand installation, troubleshooting, setups, and laboratory equipment maintenance. Support and recommendations for engineering regarding equipment supplier evaluation, facility updates, and instrument specifications are also part of the role. The technician will conduct performance and reliability testing on engines, components, systems, and controls, diagnose issues, and implement resolutions. This includes writing computer programs for analysis, configuring engine test programs, interpreting results, making adjustments, documenting data, and maintaining electronic files. Rig, engine, and component builds, tear downs, and inspections, along with grading and measuring components, are also key duties. The technician will create sketches for machining and fabricate necessary parts. They will install engines and instrumentation, use common tools like Calterm, Asset, and Cyflex, and design, document, and execute test plans, providing input and preparing reports with findings and recommendations. Adherence to company and department rules, training apprentices, interfacing with customers and engineers, coordinating programs, and participating in quality procedures and improvement projects are expected. The role also involves developing and giving presentations, complying with safety policies, demonstrating confidentiality, and participating in audits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Department of Labor Certification OR four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts performance and reliability testing on multiple and single cylinder engines, components, systems, and controls.
  • Performs diagnosis of engines, components, systems, controls, and test cell problems and initiates appropriate resolutions.
  • Configures and operates data acquisition systems; analyzes and reviews data for appropriateness; writes computer programs to assist in analysis and data interpretation; configures engine test programs; interprets results; makes necessary adjustments; documents, defines data collected, and maintains electronic files.
  • Performs rig, engine and component builds, tear down, and inspections.
  • Grades and measures components.
  • Creates sketches for machining and fabricates necessary piping, tubing, and brackets from prints and drawings.
  • Installs engines and instrumentation of engines and components in test cells, test rigs.
  • Uses common tools such as Calterm, Asset, Cyflex, etc.
  • Designs, documents, and executes test plans; provides input during the creation of test plans; prepares test reports to include findings, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Understands and applies appropriate company and department rules and guidelines to work.
  • Works with and trains apprentices and technicians.
  • Interfaces with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions.
  • Coordinates programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.
  • Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.
  • Leads and participate in improvement projects.
  • Develops and gives presentations to customers and suppliers.
  • Knows and complies with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality as required.
  • Participates in self- and team-audits and associated corrective action.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to get the job done.
  • Actively participate in daily 5S efforts.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, orderly, and productive workspace.
  • Maintain daily test cell and work order logbooks.
  • Consistently run daily Test Readiness Verification (TRV).
  • Consistently update Multi-State Utilization (MSU) Board.
  • Consistently review/approve timecard.
  • Maintain good relations, communication, and a spirit of collaboration with customers and cross-functional departments.
  • Maintain engines on test.
  • Complete all mandatory training by required deadlines.
