The Mechanical Engineering Department is searching for eligible candidates as Teaching Assistants for various courses for the Fall 2026 term. The role involves assisting the instructor with the instruction and evaluation of students in the assigned course. Requirements

  • Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
  • Must have completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (for MECH 362).
  • Graduate studies completed or in progress in fluid mechanics or aerodynamics required (for MECH 331).
  • Graduate studies in system dynamics and controls (for MECH 419).
  • Experience with finite element method and solid mechanics necessary (for MECH 321).
  • Experience with Python programming is required (for MECH 383).
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink and MSC ADAMS (for MECH 412).
  • Must have research experience in gasdynamics (for MECH 430).
  • Must have completed MECH 261 or 262 or equivalent (for MECH 261/262).
  • Experience required in experimental research, measurement device operation and data analysis (for MECH 261/262 Lab TAs).
  • Understanding of the principles of measurement device operation, electric circuits, statistics and data analysis required (for MECH 261/262 One Course TA).
  • Experience with Design Graphics, Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D and standards and conventions of Design Graphics Communication necessary (for MECH 289).
  • Basic knowledge of metrology instruments, how to use and read caliper, what are coordinate measuring machines and measurement probes (for MECH 360).
  • Basic understanding of geometric and dimensional tolerances (for MECH 360).
  • Must have completed a course in system dynamics and control (for MECH 412).
  • Must previously have taken this course with a good grade (specific courses vary by TA position).
  • Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring (specific courses vary by TA position).
  • Must have done a thesis, written a conference/journal paper or done a senior project involving mechanisms and/or kinematics (for MECH 314).
  • Must have completed and excelled in MECH 240 (or equivalent), MECH 331 (or equivalent), MECH 346 (or equivalent), and MECH 650 (for MECH 346).
  • Must previously have taken MECH 360 or equivalent with a good grade (for MECH 360).
  • Must identify self to instructor as potential TA at least one term before application, for training during class tutorials (for MECH 360).
  • Must have completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (for MECH 362).
  • Must be a graduate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (for MECH 383).
  • Must previously taken this course or equivalent (specific courses vary by TA position).
  • Requires public speaking ability (specific courses vary by TA position).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously (specific courses vary by TA position).
  • Prior TA experience in MECH 346 is highly desirable (for MECH 346).
  • Preferably have been a teaching assistant for this course previously (for MECH 393).
  • Experience with WebCT environment is an asset (for MECH 463).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting instructor of the course with instruction and evaluation of students.
