About The Position

DIALOG is a multi-disciplinary practice of architects, interior designers, urban designers and planners, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, landscape architects and sustainability experts who design for community wellbeing and urban vibrancy. We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Student to join our Vancouver studio for a 4 or 8-month work term beginning in September 2026. Requirements

  • Currently working towards a degree as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Interested and engaged in building design, construction, and performance.
  • Interested and engaged in sustainability and community wellbeing.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, with an eagerness to learn and develop.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed relevant university courses or projects in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or building heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and service system design.
  • Experience in BIM, Autodesk, Revit, or CAD.
  • Knowledge of load calculation software such as IES, HAP, Trace, eQuest or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design of building mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, fire protection and building automation systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations including building heating/cooling loads, system fluid dynamics, piping and ductwork design, plumbing design, and equipment selections.
  • Assist with sustainable design initiatives including energy-reduction strategies, renewable energy systems, and operational energy and carbon analysis.
  • Develop and work with 3D BIM (Autodesk Revit) models for engineering calculations, coordination, and drawing production.
  • Accompany senior team members for field reviews at existing buildings and active construction sites.
  • Become familiar with building codes and standards; learn to reference, interpret, and apply the relevant requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering studies and construction documents.
  • Engage in collaborative work within multi-disciplinary teams; develop communication skills and expand your knowledge of holistic building design.
  • Engage in self-managed focused work; develop time management skills and expand your technical knowledge of building engineering.
