About The Position

Formlabs is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Winter/Spring 2027 term (January - April). This full-time, onsite position in Somerville, MA, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design, assembly, testing, and evaluation of 3D printers. Interns will participate in design reviews, solve engineering challenges, build prototypes, and utilize CAD skills for part and assembly design. The role also involves direct communication with vendors and suppliers to overcome production challenges. This internship is ideal for individuals passionate about hands-on engineering, rapid prototyping, and eager to learn about bringing products to market within the innovative field of 3D printing.

Requirements

A portfolio of previous engineering work/projects is required.
Have a desire to hone skills and learn more about engineering design and the process of bringing products to market.
Have worked with complex mechanical or electro-mechanical systems and want exposure to the inner workings of 3D printers.
Have one-or-more of the following hands-on experiences: Lab research, member of a project team, prior internship or previous work experience.
Have an up to date resume and portfolio of previous experience to highlight learned skills and their application.

Responsibilities

Design, assemble, test, and evaluate the performance of 3D printers.
Participate in design reviews and help solve design, engineering, and manufacturing problems.
Polish time management and communication skills to increase effectiveness as an engineer.
Build prototype components and assemblies using in-house facilities.
Use CAD skills to design parts and assemblies, create engineering drawings, and learn about documentation control.
Assist with direct communications to vendors and suppliers to help overcome production challenges.
